2019 £5 Crown

There were nine 2019 dated £5 crown coins. The Plantagenet Falcon Queen’s beast (which was first sold at the end of 2018), 4x Tower of London coins, Birth of Queen Victoria, Beaufort Yale beast, a Lion of England again and the third Remembrance poppy coin. There was another Christmas coin planned, but this never appeared.

The story behind the design:

The Falcon of the Plantagenets. One of the ten “Queen’s Beasts” series of coins, which were originally silver bullion and silver proof issues only, until they decided to also launch them in cupro-nickel £5 crown format. The coins actually don’t really commemorate anything! This one is dated 2019 but was made available for sale from September 2018.

The story behind the design:

The original Lion of England coin was originally part of the Queen’s Beasts series and was dated 2017. Due to the success of the England team in the 2018 Football World cup another was issued dated 2018 (with different packaging, of course) and the same was done in 2019, to mark the success of the England Cricket team, who won the Cricket world cup against New Zealand.
