£1 Coins in Circulation

Introduced as a round coin in 1983. The UK pound coin originally replaced the Bank of England £1 note.

The current 12-sided UK pound coin was first circulated on the 28th March 2017. The older UK pound coin was demonetised on the 14th October 2017. Banks still accept the older £1 coins.

See this page for the 1983 – 2016 round £1 coins.

Seven 12-sided £1 coins have been issued up to 2022 (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022). More information on new £1 varieties here.
