2013 £5 Crown

Three commemorative crowns were issued in 2013. A coin to mark the diamond jubilee of the Queen’s coronation and two coins to mark the arrival of Prince George (one for his birth, one for his christening).

The story behind the design:

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse is by Emma Noble and shows the crown used to officially crown the Queen in 1953.

Mintage for Circulation: None. These were struck as silver proof only (issue limit 10,000).

The story behind the design:

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse is by Benedetto Pistrucci and was originally used on the sovereigns and Crowns of George III. Over nearly 200 years it has been used on many different coins, including most sovereign gold coins and most recently (on a crown), for the 1951 Festival of Britain commemorative crown.

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse is by John Bergdahl and is based on the Lily Font which is used to baptise Royal babies since 1841:
