Two commemorative crowns were issued in 2010. One to mark the 350th anniversary of the restoration of the monarchy and another with a big ‘2’ as part of the countdown to the London Olympics.
Commemorative £5 Coin, Type 22:
Obverse Type (bust design by Ian Rank-Broadley, dated 2010):
Reverse Type (design by David Cornell):
Edge: Milled edge.
Mintage for Circulation: 30,247
Collectability/Scarcity: 1 (for scale details see here)
The story behind the design:
The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse by David Cornell shows the interlinked C’s monogram of Charles II flanked by oak leaves and royally crowned. After the Commonwealth and the Protectorate came the restoration of the monarchy. But why were the people fed up with the new republican rule after such a short time? :

Reverse Type (design by Claire Aldridge):
Edge: Milled edge.
Mintage for Circulation: 153,080

The story behind the design:
The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse is by Claire Aldridge and features a digital style ‘2’, the London 2012 logo and some other bits and pieces! I think the series of Olympic countdown Crowns are among my least favourite commemorative crowns.
