Another 14x 50p coins were made in 2022 (same amount as 2021), two of which actually circulated as proper coins! There was the standard shield reverse 50p, a coin for the Commonwealth Games, two different designs for the Queen’s 70th Jubilee, three Winnie-The-Pooh coins, Pride, Alan Turing, the death of the Queen, the BBC, two Harry Potter related and of course a Christmassy Snowman for good measure.

The story behind the design:

Following a commemorative for the great Alan Turing, here’s one for Kanga & Roo, who have – it is probably fair to say – made less of an impact on the world. At least this is hopefully the penultimate Winne-The-Pooh themed coin ever (it’s number 8 of 9, in case you were counting)!  https://www.britannica.com/topic/Winnie-the-Pooh-childrens-stories-by-Milne

At last, the ninth and last ever Winnie-The-Pooh themed 50p! It shows him and his friends (again, but different). Mr The-Pooh has no doubt generated a lot of sales and profit, but he has certainly lost me as a friend along the way.  https://www.britannica.com/topic/Winnie-the-Pooh-childrens-stories-by-Milne

The story behind the design:

Issued shortly after the death of the Queen in order to commemorate her life and reign, this is one of the first coins to show the new King. There was some confusion about the presence/location of the date – it’s on the reverse in quite small numerals flanking the welsh leek, between the two shields at the bottom. This reverse design was originally used on the 1953 coronation crown and I think it also looks good in smaller 50p sized format.
