2021 Two Pounds

There have been three 2021 dated £2 coins so far. The standard Britannia, Sir Walter Scott and H G Wells (those were all included in the 2021 annual sets).

The Standard £2 Coin:

Mintage for Circulation: Not yet known.

The story behind the design:

The new obverse portrait by (Mr) Jody Clark was introduced in March 2015 and replaces the previous Ian Rank-Broadley portrait on all circulating coins. The new Britannia reverse, which replaced the ‘technology’ reverse, was also introduced in 2015.

The story behind the design: This coin marks the 100th anniversary of the death of H G Wells. Herbert George Wells, best known for his pioneering science fiction novels, was born on the 21st September 1866 in Bromley, Kent. Prominent on the reverse of the coin are The Invisible Man, an alien invader from The War of the Worlds and a nod to The Time Machine. https://www.britannica.com/biography/H-G-Wells
