2020 Two Pounds

There were five 2020 dated £2 coins. The standard Britannia, Agatha Christie, D-Day, Mayflower (those four were all included in the 2020 annual sets) and the third in the HMS Bark Endeavour/Captain Cook series.

The story behind the design:

The new obverse portrait by (Mr) Jody Clark was introduced in March 2015 and replaces the previous Ian Rank-Broadley portrait on all circulating coins. The new Britannia reverse, which replaced the ‘technology’ reverse, was also introduced in 2015.

The story behind the design: This coin marks the 100th anniversary since the publication of Agatha Christie’s first novel (which featured Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who would often reference his ‘little grey cells’). The story behind the design: VE-Day (Victory in Europe day) – the 8th May 1945. The day that Germany surrendered and in doing so ended the long and tragic Second World War (in Europe at least). The story behind the design: The Mayflower ship set sail from England and arrived in the new world (what is now the USA) in 1620, 400 years ago. After a harsh winter, the survivors established an early colony on the new continent. https://www.ushistory.org/us/3a.asp
