2019 Two Pounds

Five different 2019 £2 coins were made and sold dated 2019. The standard Britannia reverse coin, the D-Day commemorative, the anniversaries of Wedgwood and Samuel Pepys’ last diary entry and the second Captain Cook coin.

Mintage for Circulation: Not yet known.

The story behind the design:

The new obverse portrait by (Mr) Jody Clark was introduced in March 2015 and replaces the previous Ian Rank-Broadley portrait on all circulating coins. The new Britannia reverse, which replaced the ‘technology’ reverse, was also introduced in 2015.

To mark 75 years (on the 6th June 2019) since the D-Day landing – a significant strategic turning point to World War II.

Marking the 260th anniversary of Josiah Wedgwood’s ceramics company, which still exists to this day (after a few ownership changes along the way).

Marking the 250th anniversary of the voyage of the Captain James Cook’s ship, the HM Bark Endeavour and its voyage of discovery. This is the second in a series of three coins. The ship has recently been restored:
