2018 Two Pounds

Nine different 2018 £2 coins were issued in 2018. The standard Britannia reverse coin, the Frankenstein commemorative, the Anniversary of the RAF (badge), the WWI Armistice coin, four further RAF Anniversary coins and one of three coins due to mark Captain James Cook’s voyage.

The story behind the design:

The new obverse portrait by (Mr) Jody Clark was introduced in March 2015 and replaces the previous Ian Rank-Broadley portrait on all circulating coins.

To mark 200 years since the publication of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’, one of the best known horror novels ever written.

Edge: WILFRED OWEN KILLED IN ACTION 4 NOV 1918.

Mintage for Circulation: None, a total of 48,736 were sold in BU form.

The story behind the design:

The fifth and final £2 to mark the events of WWI. This coin marks the armistice of 1918. The edge refers to Wilfred Owen, who was probably the best known poet of WWI. He was killed in action one week before the armistice.
