2011 £5 Crown

Three commemorative crowns were issued in 2011. One to mark the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, another with a big ‘1’ as part of the countdown to the London Olympics and a third to mark the 90th birthday of Prince Philip.

The story behind the design:

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse by Mark Richards shows the facing busts of Prince William and Kate.

The story behind the design:

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse is by Claire Aldridge and features a digital style ‘1’, the London 2012 logo and some other bits and pieces! I think the series of Olympic countdown Crowns are among my least favourite commemorative crowns.

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen. The reverse is by Mark Richards and shows the face of Prince Philip facing right. Prince Philip was born on Corfu in 1921:
